Managing Your Benefit


Making changes to your benefit

Log in to your SmarTrip® account, click "Manage SmartBenefits" from your Card Summary, and submit a change request for your benefit status or monthly amount. You'll receive an email receipt for your request and an alert when RPS processes it.

Submit changes by the 12th

Changes after the 12th take effect the following month.

Lost or damaged SmarTrip® card

You can transfer your SmartBenefits® to a replacement card on your own. From your SmarTrip® Card Summary page, click "Report Lost or Damaged Card" and follow the prompts. Your replacement card must be registered under the same name and must not have been previously enrolled in SmartBenefits®.

Frequently Asked Questions


No. SmartBenefits® is completely voluntary. If you don't use eligible transit or parking, you are not required to enroll.

Benefits are allocated monthly. WMATA loads them to your registered SmarTrip® card at the start of each benefit month once your enrollment is active.

Yes. Log in to your SmarTrip® account and submit a change request through your SmartBenefits® dashboard. Changes submitted by the 12th of the month take effect the following month.

Your WMATA enrollment amount must exactly match one of the 6 RPS benefit categories in the table above. A mismatch may prevent your enrollment from processing. Contact [email protected] if you need help selecting the correct category.

RPS needs time to review and submit your changes to WMATA before their 15th cutoff. Setting our internal deadline to the 12th ensures your changes are always processed on time.
